Clutch problems for Carlos Sainz

07/01/2026

Stage 4: Alula > Camp Shelter
Distance: 417 kilometers
Stage position: Fourth

Carlos Sainz and Lucas Cruz (Ford Raptor) finished the fourth stage of the Dakar Rally in fourteenth place and now occupy fourth place in the overall standings, 15 minutes and 53 seconds behind the new leader, Henk Lategan (Toyota).

This was the first marathon stage of this year’s rally. The starting position of the driver from Madrid has not been very favorable and, without the layout of the motorcycles and with a complicated route, has made the Spanish driver lose time. But the problems came from the mechanical part, the clutch of the Ford broke leaving the Spanish rider in a complicated situation since he will not be assisted by his mechanics today. However, this situation can also be an advantage for tomorrow if he manages to repair the clutch, since again, without bikes opening the track, he could make up ground on the leading riders.
