Carlos Sainz fourth in the eighth stage consolidates his lead

Today’s 458-kilometer stage eight between Al Duwadimi and Hail consolidated the lead of Carlos Sainz and Lucas Cruz (Audi RS Q e-tron) at the head of the Dakar Rally, increasing the gap with their main rival Sebastien Loeb (Bahrain).

Calos and Lucas drove a trouble-free stage in which they finished in fourth position, just over five minutes behind the winner and Audi teammate Mattias Ekström. The Spanish drivers now have a lead of 24 minutes and 47 seconds over Loeb with four days remaining in Yanbu.

Carlos Sainz: “Today’s stage clearly had two parts. A first part of sand and dunes and a second part difficult to navigate, completely different rocks and stones, difficult to see where to go. The truth is that we went well, Lucas did a good job and we didn’t have any problems. One day less so it’s positive and on top of that Audi has done first and second with Mattias and Stéphane “.

The best riders may not have time to admire the exceptional landscapes of this stage, which will leave them mentally exhausted. On the surface, the start of the special may seem quick, but things change quickly. More than seeing them, you have to guess where the tracks go, so navigation becomes more complicated. And riding on rocky plateaus requires as much confidence as technique to find the ideal pace.
